J + N are one of those couples whose love is so deep, you can truly feel it just by spending some time with them. She envisioned a location with mountains and open fields, so we chose Malibu Creek State Park for their engagement session. I loved how they both wore shades of green that matched with the scenery, and how she chose to go barefoot the entire time. It added such a grounding, down-to-earth touch that felt very true to who she is, and this was the perfect preview for how their wedding was also going to feel like.

The 15 min walk to our spot gave me a chance to hear their story more in depth: how they met, what they’ve been through, and why they chose each other as life partners. They’ve faced challenges that would test any couple, but I could tell those experiences only deepened their trust and bond with each other. Their emotional intelligence was so evident in the little ways they showed up for each other; she always included him in conversation, they were both honest and reflective about their imperfect journey together, and often times shared the softest smile + eye contact that said everything about their relationship. I loved the way they talked about co-parenting as well, which was so inspiring to me at the time because I used to have a negative view towards parenthood. They truly embodied the “power couple” dynamic that I aspire for, so working with them at the beginning of my career was truly a blessing.

I hardly needed to guide them for this session! They naturally shifted between playful laughter and quiet, peaceful moments. It helped that we were in such a beautiful environment because they were able to let loose and express how excited they are for this chapter in their lives. Capturing their love felt easy and effortless because what they share is so real and meaningful. J led while N matched her energy the entire time. They’re a great example of what happens when two deeply committed people let their authentic selves shine during a photography experience.
